Summary:
- The Vice President, Perioperative Services at Pennsylvania Hospital will have overall responsibility for the successful development, implementation and alignment of operational, strategic and programmatic initiatives for PAH Perioperative and Procedural Services. This scope will include all procedural/operative services at PAH and under the PAH license. The position will report to the CEO while closely collaborating with the CNO and will be a member of the executive leadership team at PAH. The individual will have budgetary oversight of all areas under perioperative services in coordination with the PAH CFO.The position will have direct administrative oversight of pre-admission testing process, central sterile processing, anesthesia support, perfusion, OR information systems and technology, endoscopy, PAH ASC/ASF sites as well as responsibility for OR scheduling and block time allocation. This role will be the PAH collaborative interface with physicians, materials management, supply chain, DTS and others for new technology. It is anticipated that this individual will maintain a clinical practice which will fill a percentage of their work time, depending on the person's specialty.
Responsibilities:
- VP, Perioperative Services will provide high-level oversight of all procedural services on the PAH license in the domains of quality, patient safety, patient engagement, finance and patient flow or capacity optimization. This includes all sites on and off campus.
- Provide Physician leadership and partner with the CNO and Clinical Director(s) and operational leaders to lead the PAH OR committees, represent PAH on the UPHS Perioperative Council and other key committees across the Health System.
- Provide oversight and coordination of outpatient and inpatient care of operative/procedural patients.
- Ensure the development and oversight of quality and performance improvement programs for PAH Perioperative and Procedural Services in alignment with stakeholders throughout the Health System.
- Participate on hospital and faculty practice leadership teams
- work with the relevant Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, Department COOs, Executive Directors, and leaders at other Entities to manage/negotiate the complex needs of various stakeholders across the Health System in realizing the strategic goals of PAH.
- Work in concert with physician, nursing and operations partners to ensure that operational, strategic and programmatic initiatives consistently adhere to all regulatory and licensure requirements.
- Work with relevant partners to ensure that complex decisions are always aligned with the principles of finance, patient safety and the highest levels of patient care.
- Partners with physicians, nursing and operations leaders and other key stakeholders on developing capital requests and ensuring all perioperative and procedural areas operate within reasonable standards related to facilities, infrastructure and equipment.
- In collaboration with nursing and operations develop annual budget and manage budget to PAH and UPHS goals.
- Work with Clinical Director(s) to lead in optimizing the advancement of day-to-day clinical operations in the PAH Perioperative & Procedural Service areas including all licensed procedural services and sterile instrument processing at all locations.
- Identifies and addresses operational issues, implements strategies to ensure efficient functioning of the operating rooms and procedural areas.
- Work collaboratively with Nursing leadership and operational leaders to assess personnel needs as well as any ongoing staff training and educational opportunities.
- Ensures that the PAH Perioperative & Procedural services meets operating guidelines as established by ELT, Procedural & OR Executive Committees including but not limited to: OR utilization, patient access, revenue cycle, patient satisfaction and quality goals.
- Ensure consistent use of data such as benchmarking and relevant market data to develop, advance and deploy appropriate dashboards and other management tools across all procedural sites within PENN MEDICINE, ensuring relevant adjustments as needed for various locations.
- Review reports submitted through the Event Reporting System that pertains to perioperative and procedural areas. Participate in RCAs and other forums to define issues and develop solutions.
- Promote patient engagement and ensure consistently outstanding experience for patients.
- Fosters a climate of collaboration with medical, nursing and ancillary staff and engage in developing best practice processes.
- Work with physician leaders, nursing leadership, other clinical and administrative leadership to ensure programmatic growth and advancement of growth targets and quality goals are developed and achieved.
- Develop and track progress of comprehensive PAH Perioperative business plan(s) – updated annually in accordance with PAH and Penn Medicine budget process.
- Manage and improve all procedural activity along key performance metrics for related clinical subspecialties including volume growth, patient satisfaction, access, quality measures, service line profitability and staff and physician engagement scores.
- Lead, monitor, and report on progress for agreed upon annual goals and objectives to CEO and ELT
- Participate in corporate and entity supply chain initiatives to manage the introduction of new technologies and devices in a fiscally responsible manner, balancing our need to advance our clinical quality, our market position and our financial performance.
- Work annually with physician partners, Chairs, Chiefs and COOs of various departments to identify priorities and development of new programs to ensure that planning is coordinated across departments and Health System Entities.

Credentials:
- Medical Doctor (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- 10+ years Executive leadership experience leading hospital operations in an integrated health system within a competitive market
