Position Overview
- Minimum Pay: $21.33
- Responds to dispatched emergency assignments expeditiously. Maintains a state of readiness to be able to respond to an assignment within sixty seconds under most circumstances.
- Implements proper patient care procedures safely and rapidly by using accurate assessment skills pertaining to the illness or injury. Assures BLS procedures preformed on patients are done properly using knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific patient care.
- Identifies and manages rapidly changing situations of an emergency patient care situation effectively. Assesses patient's current condition through physical and verbal exam via patient or others present.
- Collects all available pertinent patient information form patient, family, friends, medical records, and medications.
- Transfers the patient safely to appropriate care provider and facility providing the receiving staff with a report. Completes all paperwork requirements during patient transfer and in compliance with departmental policies.
- Completes an accurate patient care record including demographic information, clinical findings, history, medications, allergies, treatment rendered, and any changes during transport. Documents and relays accurately the patient's medications, dosage, and frequency to assure medical reconciliation whenever conditions permit.
- Provides a comprehensive written incident report describing any unusual event in accordance with hospital and department policy.
- Submits PTO requests in a timely manner to maximize scheduling efficiency. Adjusts schedule as operations dictate. If per diem, adheres to departmental policy regarding availability and scheduling.
- Practices safe environmental and patient contact principles. Adheres to universal precautions when risk of contact with bodily fluids is anticipated.
- Drives defensively while obeying New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission laws and follows emergency and non-emergency driving principles and practices that promote safe driving and minimize risk of injury or incident to life or property.
- Completes a vehicle check sheet accurately and timely and assures safety concerns are addressed. Assures equipment is well maintained kept clean. Assures inventory of necessary supplies is maintained.
- Uses downtime to address global department needs or personal education.
- Performs additional duties as assigned and supports the mission of the department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High school diploma or equivalency.
- Experience: Previous EMT experience preferred.
- Other Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Drivers License, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazmat Awareness,ICS-100,ICS-200,NIMS,NIMS-700
- Knowledge and Skills: Basic computer skills.
- Special Training: NJ EMT certification by the NREMT, or the State of New York, or any member state of the Atlantic EMS Council, including Delaware, the district of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
- Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Good problem solving and critical thinking skills required. Ability to work well as part of a team. Excellent customer service skills required.
- Usual Work Day: 12 Hours
