Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists on the team, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex computational tasks throughout training period. Will develop, adapt, and implement novel research algorithmic techniques and software. Curates and analyzes data. Will work with state-of-the-art computing hardware. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
The Postdoctoral Scientist in the Dou Lab at Cedars-Sinai will create and lead research to improve translational cancer research by leveraging clinical and image data. In the Dou Lab we use advanced data science methods, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to investigate the use of multimodal medical image data, including but not limited to CT and MRI, as well as electronic health records (EHR) to improve the cancer clinical decision making. The successful candidate will have access to the rich and unparalleled resources at Cedars-Sinai Cancer.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
- Will participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
- Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
- May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
- Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
- Performs routine and complex computational tasks throughout the training period.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
- May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.
Requirements for the Postdoctoral Scientist Position:
We’re looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Postdoctoral Scientist supporting groundbreaking translational cancer research. To be considered, candidates should meet the following qualifications:
- A doctoral degree (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in a field directly related to the area of research specialization.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on research projects under the guidance of a mentor (typically the Principal Investigator) within your area of expertise.
- Between one to five (1–5) years of postdoctoral experience, during which you have gained solid technical and theoretical knowledge relevant to your research projects.
- Strong hands-on experience performing experimental protocols and procedures, including data collection, analysis, and use of specialized laboratory equipment.
- Working knowledge of safety standards and best practices for operating and maintaining specialized research tools and equipment.
This role plays a critical part in advancing our translational cancer research efforts, which integrate advanced computational methods with clinical imaging data. You will work closely with Dr. Dou and a collaborative research team focused on using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to interpret multimodal imaging (CT, MRI) and electronic health record (EHR) data to improve cancer care and decision-making.
The position offers opportunities to contribute to innovative algorithm development, data curation and analysis, as well as grant writing and peer-reviewed publications.
