Position Summary
The Associate Dean for Graduate Programs leads a team with oversight of admissions and recruitment, financial aid and funding, student advising, liaison to OISS, and linkage to WashU Student Affairs. Collaborates with the Dean, the Vice Dean for Graduate Education, department chairs and other McKelvey leaders; the faculty; the Office of the Provost; the Division of Student Affairs; and other schools at WashU to ensure McKelvey maintains robust and high-quality graduate programs and that McKelvey students receive appropriate support throughout their graduate career. The Associate Dean also ensures adherence to and implementation of all relevant policies and processes for graduate students within the McKelvey School of Engineering.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of processes, policies and procedures for McKelvey to support recruitment, academic advancement and experiential excellence in graduate students’ lifecycle including:
- recruitment and marketing
- applications and admissions operations, including liaison with OISS
- linkage with WashU Student Affairs support services
- advising and retention
- Oversee the development and implementation of annual recruitment and enrollment plans and goals. Develop key performance indicators and metrics to measure and track the success of the implemented plans.
- Engage McKelvey faculty and staff in developing, modifying, and enhancing academic support for graduate students to ensure successful academic outcomes for graduate students during their studies at McKelvey.
- Collaborate across schools and departments within the university to coordinate, develop, and modify student policies, ensuring McKelvey is compliant and updated with current information. Serve as the primary liaison on WashU committees for Graduate Student Services.
- Oversee a team responsible for managing financial aid and scholarships. Ensure the accurate allocation and utilization of research grant funds for PhD stipends. Collaborate with various departments and faculty across different schools, especially the School of Medicine, to coordinate the funding of student stipends for McKelvey students by non-McKelvey Principal Investigators.
- Provide direction and leadership to all staff assigned to graduate student functions, programs, operations and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
