Position Summary
The Medical Nutrition Support Team at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a motivated Nurse Practitioner to manage parenteral nutrition (TPN) for both inpatients and outpatients. This role blends hospital consultative services with longitudinal follow-up in clinic or remotely, delivering independent, comprehensive care under the guidance of our attendings. Comprehensive onboarding and mentorship in clinical nutrition support and parenteral nutrition will be provided. Our patients come from across the country and around the world for complex nutrition management, making this a highly specialized and impactful role. Responsibilities
- Provide advanced nutrition support consultative care for adult inpatients and outpatients with a variety of primary diagnoses including critical care, oncology, surgery, medicine, obstetrics, and psychiatry.
- Provide outpatient care in-person or via telehealth and through electronic communication with home infusion agencies for patients on long-term home parenteral nutrition.
- Order and manage parenteral nutrition.
- Work collaboratively and inter-disciplinarily with multiple physician teams, dietitians, pharmacists, and home infusion agencies.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, billing, and entry of parenteral nutrition orders.
- Coordinate transitions of care for patients being discharged on home parenteral nutrition.
- Weekend home call and remote PN order entry (~8 AM–2 PM, 1 day on weekends).
- Participate in didactic conferences with NYP dietitians.
- May participate in institutional policy and quality improvement meetings to represent the Nutrition Support Team and enhance clinical documentation and care delivery.
- Possibility of flexible schedule after training.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience, along with one to two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current New York State (NYS) NP license (or proof of application) and RN license, as well as board certification.
- Must be eligible for AHA BCLS.
- Must be eligible for a DEA.
- Familiarity with hospital and outpatient workflows.
- Strong documentation, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Must be an excellent communicator, adept at working across teams and finding collaborative solutions in a fast-paced academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with parental nutrition or complex GI care and nutritional support.
- Experience starting or scaling outpatient specialty clinics.
- Advanced training in nutrition (e.g., RD credential, master's in nutrition, or completion of clinical nutrition internship) is a plus but not required.

- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Wear N-95 respirator
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
