Position Overview
SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
Provides assistance and support in the direct clinical and administrative supervision of Psychiatric Screening Center clinical staff. Assists the program coordinator in providing operational support for the psychiatric screening center. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others to ensure positive patient outcomes. Provides direction and guidance to staff at all times regarding behavior and other related performance standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: MSW in Social Work or MA in Counseling/Psychology. LCSW or LPC preferred.
Experience: Three years previous psychiatric emergency experience.
Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period, Driver's License
Knowledge and Skills: Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and verbal and written communication skills.
Special Training: Permanent NJ State Mental Health Screening Certification.
Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides assistance and support in the direct clinical and administrative supervision of Psychiatric Screening Center clinical and clerical staff. Ensures the provision of therapeutic care in a holistic systematic way and supports clinical management of patient care delivery area to produce quality patient care with optimal patient outcomes.
- Makes clinical decisions based on education and experience and integrates varied patient experiences into clinical decision making. Works in conjunction with screening center program coordinator to ensure compliance with all federal, state, county, and organizational regulations and policies.
- Advocates for patient rights and appropriate utilization of services for screening center patients and families.
- Monitors the completion of the documentation of patient care activities as per department standards and provides direction and support to all clinical staff to ensure documentation standards are met.
- Provides direct psychiatric screening services on an as needed and emergency basis. Ensures that screening document clearly details reasons for consensual admission or involuntary commitment.
- Assists the program coordinator in providing operational support for the psychiatric screening center. Maintains a therapeutic health care environment to enhance service delivery.
- Assesses and maintains departmental staffing needs to ensure a safe and effective work environment. Participates in insuring completion of orientation and training of new department employees.
- Assists the program coordinator in the completion of employee performance appraisals.
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports to meet state, county, organizational, and departmental requirements.
- Assists the program coordinator in the maintenance of antidotal files on all screening center employees including, recording of certifications, licenses, mandatory, and unit based competency training, disciplinary actions, and other materials related to job performance.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others to ensure positive patient outcomes. Addresses patient's needs appropriately. Cares and is courteous to patients, visitors and offers a simple smile whenever appropriate and possible. Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills and assists in conflict resolution with team members, patients and families.
- Facilitates the interdisciplinary team and incorporates interdisciplinary treatment approach in clinical service delivery. Conducts clinical staff meetings to ensure all clinicians are informed of department updates, changes and information. Represents the Psychiatric Screening Center as a member of affiliated external service provision networks as needed.
- Assists staff in pursuing their professional development goals and in the identification of negative patient outcomes. Delegates patient care activities and coordinates unit activities.
- Provides direction and guidance to staff at all times regarding practice, demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving. Recognizes behaviors that impact team functioning and implements strategies to mentor for team members and provides consistent communication and demonstration for screening center staff. Facilitates leadership development among colleagues and acts as a role model and mentor.
