ResponsibilitiesPerforms delegated tasks of patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Utilizes skills which she/he has obtained in educational programs and/or orientation and has demonstrated competency. Participates actively a member of the patient care team.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients via a video tele-monitoring system for those in an inpatient setting with identified safety risks. Additionally, Video Monitor Bank PCTs may be assigned to provide 1:1 hands-on patient care on any inpatient unit and they may also float to an inpatient unit with a full PCT assignment. Key responsibilities include:
• Participating in shift reports with outgoing/oncoming staff to review pertinent patient information and behaviors.
• Maintaining visual observation of assigned patients at all times while stationed at a video monitor.
• Verbally redirecting patients using a 2-way audio device located in the patient room.
• Communicating with patients and answering questions within the scope of practice, directing other inquiries to appropriate floor staff.
• Immediately summoning on-site clinical staff if the patient requires assistance or in the event of a safety issue.
• Collaborating with clinical co-workers to create a safe environment for patients.
• Demonstrating strong computer skills, communication abilities, and the capacity to multi-task.
• Providing excellent customer service, professionalism, and courtesy at all times.
• Maintaining patient dignity and privacy.
• In addition to video surveillance, providing hands-on patient care on any inpatient unit as needed – may be 1:1 or a full PCT assignment
• Sitting for extended periods, either in front of video monitors or in patient rooms as a 1:1 PCT.
• Completing a comprehensive orientation, including 4+ weeks of patient care tech training with a PCT preceptor and 2+ weeks of video monitor bank training.
• Actively participating as a member of the patient care team.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required. Patient Care Experience preferred.
License and Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
