Role Overview:
- Receives all incoming animals, checking them for species, strain, sex, and health status.
- Prepares cage cards for each cage and transfers animals from shipping crates to new cages.
- Verifies accuracy of order by comparing order to packing slip to actual animals delivered and delivers animals to proper animal rooms.
- Ensure holding room environmental parameters are met and maintained and report all facility related problems to Management.
- Contacts other RARC employees and/or WCMC/MSKCC investigators regarding housing or health and welfare issues in person or via email and/or telephone.
- Updates data in applicable software applications as needed. Assists with and ensures smooth operations of facilities by working closely with Management.
- Performs light carpentry work and minor equipment installations in vivaria at Managements’ request.
Key Qualifications:
- AALAS Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
- Valid NY state driver’s license
- Upon hiring: Completion of USDOT Commercial Driver Fitness Certification and compliance with MSK Drivers Drug and Alcohol policy if assigned to drive an MSK vehicle
CORE SKILLS:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and should be able to function independently with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with computer skills including proficiency with email, internet and word-processing and accessing departmental sites (EnCCoMPass, Microsoft Office)
- The individual must be detailed oriented and have organization skills.
- An understanding of the purpose of using and requirements for maintaining axenic animals and aquatic animal species. Implements and adheres to applicable SOPS. Assists in SOP development by providing input.
