The Associate Director- Research Compliance & Integrity, under the direction of the Executive Director, Research Compliance, and in collaboration with key organizational stakeholders, is responsible for managing the institution's research compliance program. This position coordinates resources to ensure that the research compliance program effectively prevents and/or detects violations of law, regulations or policies, and assists in promoting a culture of responsibility and integrity in the conduct of research. This position also serves as the Title IX Coordinator and provides support to the Research Integrity Officer.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the day-to-day research compliance activities of the organization.
Develops and coordinates specific and measurable research compliance training and education programs for all employees and researchers; Assesses the need for additional training and education and develops or facilitates appropriate education, communication or outreach.
Develops, reviews, updates and communicates clear and understandable policies regarding research compliance and integrity. Assesses and implements standards, procedures and systems to improve and maintain workforce research compliance and identify the standards to which the research community will be held accountable in collaboration with stakeholders.
Conducts continuous risk assessments to identify potential areas of risk. Designs and conducts regular monitoring and other quality assurance periodic reviews to confirm compliance with research requirements and policies. Coordinates with other areas of the organization to identify and address risk areas and activities.
Escalates issues of potential non-compliance to the Executive Director and Chief Compliance Officer and assists with conducting, overseeing or follow-up, as applicable regarding resolution and/or corrective action plans.
Maintains open lines of communication for employees and other stakeholders to inquire or report suspected violations of the research compliance program, policies and procedures or related laws and regulations.
Closely monitors government communications specific to new risk areas, government audit activity/advisories and regulatory updates. Stays current with applicable local, state, federal laws, regulations and policies related to research compliance and integrity and advise senior leadership on emerging compliance and security issues, providing strategic guidance and recommendations.
Develops and implements an annual review of and update to the compliance plan under direction of the Research Compliance Committee. Evaluates the effectiveness of the research compliance and security programs regularly, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
Collaborates with Office of Research Administration, Information Security, and other relevant areas to ensure compliance with export control, research security and exclusion screening regulations and requirements, including training, current policies and compliance monitoring
Supports the Research Integrity Officer in responsibilities related to responsible conduct of research, including training, up to date policies, reporting and prompt review and investigation of allegations of research misconduct
Develops, implements, and enforces institutional policies, procedures, and training related to Title IX compliance, ensuring alignment with federal and state regulations to prevent and address incidents of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence
Serves as the primary point of contact for Title IX inquiries, providing guidance and support to students, faculty, and staff on issues related to sexual misconduct and gender equity, and, in collaboration with Legal Affairs and Human Resources, coordinating investigations and resolutions of Title IX complaints in a fair and impartial manner
Organizes and provides support to the Research Compliance Committee, including setting meeting agendas, distributing relevant materials, and documenting discussions and decisions to ensure alignment with institutional policies and regulatory requirements
Supports the research conflict of interest disclosure and management process as requested.
Department specific duties:
Experience working with federal agencies, industry sponsors, research security, training and policy development. Also, foreign sponsor disclosures, export controls, research integrity, human protections and animal welfare. Experience in Title IX highly preferred.
