ResponsibilitiesProactively assumes a team leadership role to direct and coordinate the work of other staff. Assign
tasks to staff while considering workload balancing, skill sets, technical knowledge, and criticality of tasks. Serves on appropriate committees, acts as a resource to institutional committees, provides consultation in areas of expertise, and facilitates institutional work groups.
Leads technical planning for areas supported by the work unit as part of yearly division planning and serves as an active member or facilitator of technical workgroups needed to advance project objectives. Leads committees to establish technical standards, promote integration of data, and coordinate projects across work units.
Responsible and accountable for the on-time completion of assigned tasks and projects, demonstrating commitment to deadlines and priorities. Provides leadership in the technical design, system architecture, design, selection, and application of information systems resources to satisfy system requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Technical Governance
- Provides proactive leadership and direction to technical staff, coordinating workload assignments based on resource availability, skill sets, technical expertise, and business priorities.
- Ensures timely completion of assigned tasks and projects while maintaining accountability for deliverables, deadlines, and organizational priorities.
- Leads technical planning activities supporting annual division and technology roadmap initiatives.
- Facilitates technical workgroups and committees focused on establishing standards, improving integration, coordinating projects, and advancing strategic objectives.
- Serves as a technical resource and consultant to institutional committees, project teams, and cross-functional workgroups.
- Provides leadership in technical design, system architecture, technology selection, and application of information systems resources.
Laboratory Systems & Application Management
Provides technical leadership and support for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS/LIS), associated applications, interfaces, middleware technologies, laboratory automation platforms, and enterprise solutions.
- Leads system analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation, validation, enhancement, upgrade, and support activities.
- Ensures application configurations align with operational requirements, regulatory standards, security practices, and enterprise architecture principles.
- Maintains expertise in assigned applications, vendor technologies, healthcare technology platforms, and laboratory workflows.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for system functionality, business processes, workflow optimization, and future-state solution design.
- Provides guidance on application enhancements, integrations, system optimization, and vendor-supported solutions.
- Ensures data integrity through effective application configuration, validation, and management practices.
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Partners with business, operational, and technical stakeholders to gather, analyze, document, and validate complex business and system requirements.
- Translate operational needs into effective technology solutions that support laboratory objectives and enterprise strategies.
- Develops workflow diagrams, process maps, data flow documentation, and functional specifications for enterprise solutions.
- Evaluates business processes, operational procedures, and technology capabilities to identify opportunities for:
- Process optimization
- Automation
- Standardization
- Continuous improvement
- Facilitates discussions among operational, business, regulatory, and technical stakeholders to achieve alignment on system design, process improvements, technology adoption, and implementation strategies.
Integration & Enterprise Architecture
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, technical teams, and vendors to evaluate solution options and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and technology roadmaps.
- Leads and supports initiatives involving:
- Application integration
- Data exchange solutions
- Middleware technologies
- Instrument interfaces
- Laboratory automation systems
- Third-party vendor solutions
- Participates in architecture and design reviews to ensure solutions meet requirements for interoperability, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
Testing, Validation & Compliance
- Coordinates and participates in testing activities, including:
- Unit testing
- Integration testing
- User acceptance testing
- Validation activities
- Defect management and resolution
- Production readiness assessments
- Maintains documentation required for implementation, regulatory compliance, operational support, and knowledge transfer.
- Develops and maintains technical documentation, operational procedures, system specifications, support materials, and training resources.
Vendor & Industry Engagement
- Research and evaluates emerging technologies, industry trends, and vendor solutions applicable to laboratory and healthcare technology environments.
- Provides recommendations regarding technology adoption, modernization opportunities, and strategic improvements.
- Represents the organization in industry workgroups, vendor advisory boards, user communities, and professional organizations as appropriate.
- Maintains awareness of healthcare technology standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

This position is a limited-tenure role intended to support the formation, launch, and stabilization of a new company and laboratory. As the organization matures, the role is expected to transition to a permanent infrastructure position within a separate company operating independently from Mayo Clinic Laboratories.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship/we will not transfer or sponsor a visa for this role. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F1 STEM OPT extension program.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 8 years’ experience including 5 years’ of demonstrated technical experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience
OR Associates Degree and 10 years' experience including 5 years’ of demonstrated technical experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience.

Preferred experience supporting Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), laboratory middleware, laboratory automation platforms, enterprise application integrations, or other regulated healthcare technologies. Experience with business systems analysis, requirements gathering, workflow design, testing, implementation, and application support in healthcare, diagnostics, life sciences, research, or laboratory environments preferred. Familiarity with CAP, CLIA, quality management practices, and regulated system validation methodologies is desirable.
Masters degree in applicable field preferred.
