Authorizations Coordinator
Role Summary:
Authorizations Coordinator will verify current and accurate insurance information for patient and work with insurance company to get authorization(s) for services.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Authorization Specialist
- Review visit list for upcoming treatment and obtain authorization from insurance company as needed. If necessary, obtain authorization for administration and labs
- Review the Quarterly Drug Preference Worksheet. If drug ordered is Red or Yellow, review with Dr for drug change.
- Enter notes in the comment section of the Business Office activity of authorization progress and alert the Physician and Nursing Staff of any delays
- For all new starts, once authorization is obtained and financial counseling. complete, please notify the nurse at the site via email to schedule patient
- Must be at least a week out to allow for drug ordering and scheduling
- Maintain open communication with Nurses and Doctors
Financial Counselor
- Review visit list for New and treatment patients to determine patient responsibility (co-insurance/deductible) prior to each visit
- Call patient to discuss amount due prior to each visit and determine if patient can pay. If not, assist the patient in obtaining
- Foundation Assistance
- Co-Pay Assistance from drug manufacturer
- Medicaid enrollment
- Payment plan
- Place a note in Intergy regarding discussion with patient and place a note in the memo section in OncoEMR of any amount due for collection by PSS
- Be available to discuss with patient if necessary
Insurance Eligibility
- Run ‘Patient Batch Eligibility’ report the first and last week of each month from OncoEMR per patient, per location
- Verify eligibility
- Update ‘verify eligibility’ field in Intergy
- If insurance is inactive, update the visit list in Onco ‘insurance inactive’, place a note in the memo and contact the patient for updated insurance information.
- Inform all relevant parties of all/any changes to patient’s insurance
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Good communication and telephone skills
- Good computer skills; must be able to type 45 wpm
- Knowledge of medical insurance/authorization process
Education and/or Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Previous experience in obtaining insurance authorizations
