The Medical Assistant at Florida Gynecologic Oncology, a division of GenesisCare, is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in dealing with cancer patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physician or Physician’s designee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Room patients, chart weight, height, blood pressure, pulse & respiration. Review and document medications.
- Document medications the patients are currently taking, and document any new medications prescribed by our physicians while under our care. This includes the name of the medication, dose and amount prescribed, physician prescribing, instructions, date and nurse’s initials.
- Assist the physician, physician assistant and/or nurse practitioner with exams (pelvic, obtaining specimens, filling out necessary paperwork, labeling)
- Assist with nurse visits, such as catheter checks and suture/clip removals
- Keep exam rooms stocked with linens and supplies
- Collect, clean and autoclave speculums and other instruments
- Assist LPN with weekly and monthly care of the autoclave
- Review charts, checking for needed labs, history and physicals, etc. prior to patients’ appointment.
- Assist nurses in making phone calls to obtain lab and other test results.
- Prepare and send negative letters under direction of LPN
- Assist in monitoring medical supplies
- Practice safety precautions and wear personal protective equipment when needed.
- Maintain open and positive communications with the front desk
- Always demonstrate courtesy and respect
- Maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations
- Attend annual OSHA/Biomedical update meetings and application in the clinical setting of the updates.
- Maintain HIPAA rules and regulations as it applies to patient privacy.
- Be an active part of the center’s team.
- Maintain attendance according to scheduled days and hours and uniform and appearance standards, according to company policy.
- Attends mandatory company training sessions as required by state/federal law where applicable
- Other duties as assigned by Practice Administrator.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent attention to detail, good oral and written communications skills
- Must work well with multiple tasks and changing priorities
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Maintain licenses and/or certifications as applicable
- Experience in gynecology and/or oncology preferred
- 1-3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
