The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant for a full-time position in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian. The Physician Assistant will join a group of dedicated front-line providers who will provide 24/7 coverage of the PICU/PCICU. The Physician Assistant will provide services under the supervision of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellows and attendings. The individual will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation of patients in the ICU. The individual will also participate in performance improvement, research and educational activities.

Responsibilities
- Obtain patient's history, perform physical examinations, and develop care plans for patients.
- Order appropriate laboratory, radiographic and cardiac studies, review results and other clinical information pertinent to patient health as part of the care plan of patients in the ICU.
- Assist in the management of medical emergencies. Render appropriate care in the presence of a life-threatening emergency when a physician is unavailable and document all care rendered in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Assist the attending physician or fellow on any procedure falling within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice.
- Initiate subspecialty consultations or evaluations
- Counsel and instruct patients and their families.
- Communicate the transition care of patients from the ICU to step-down and/or floor.
- Ensure all medical records and notes are countersigned by the attending physician.
- Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires Master’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of experience.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited or New York State Education Department approved PA education program.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in Pediatrics or Critical Care Medicine is strongly preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in Pediatrics is strongly preferred.
- Interest in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine is strongly preferred.
Other Requirements
- Current NYS professional license, board certification by NCCPA.
- DEA License.
- BCLS and ACLS and PALS certification.
- Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance and safety guidelines.
