Job Description
.
The Lead Central Processing Technician assumes the responsibilities of a sterile processing technician as well as assists in coordinating and facilitating the daily activities of production staff in Sterile Processing Department. Responsible for quality control in the sterile processing department including diagnosing and troubleshooting technical problems and the management of surgical instruments. The Lead Central Processing Technician assists with coordination and oversight of work and work assignments for staff processing, distributing sterile materials, and/or Case Cart.
Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
- Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
- Provide workflow coordination, assist with staff supervision, orientation and training of new staff, problem identification and resolution, and instrument processing and sterilization review and monitoring for the department.
- Performs routine quality and safety checks within the department.
- Participates in department and hospital process improvement initiatives.
- In collaboration with their leadership, assists with various administrative functions which may include inventory orders, equipment maintenance and daily staffing assignments.
- Coordinates and participates in onboarding of new staff members
- Responsible for off shift and holiday call coverage based on campus requirements.
- Responsible for disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, preparing, assembling, sterilizing and dispensing surgical and procedure instrumentation and trays for the OR, Delivery Room, nursing units, and all other departments, according to manufactures instructions for use (IFU’s), prescribed procedures and aseptic technique.
- Operates automated washers, cart washers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers in a safe and efficient manner following manufacturers’ written instructions and department policy and procedure.
- Ensures verification of pre and post sterilization quality indicators.
- Reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment to appropriate SPD leadership.
- Uses Instrument Tracking System in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical trays and peel-pouched items to maintain inventory levels and accurate documentation.
- Accurately labels each item with name and/or expiration date.
- Preparing procedural case carts per campus requirements.
- Routinely checks for outdates and package integrity of sterilized items; replaces/reports as necessary.
- May be responsible for maintaining, assembling and distributing of other durable medical equipment including but not limited to code carts based on campus requirements.
- May be responsible for equipment rounds based on campus requirements.
- Examine and test instruments meticulously to ensure proper integrity, function and cleanliness prior to being sterilized or High Level disinfected.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of certified sterile processing technician training program.
AND
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in sterile processing.
