Penn Medicine is seeking a PRN, day shift Clinical Dietitian Trainee at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a Registered Dietitian, the clinical dietitian trainee is responsible for the clinical nutrition care of patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Functions as a professional consultant and member of the health care team providing high quality, evidence based nutrition care for varied patient populations in the in-patient and/or ambulatory care setting. Performs nutrition assessments, provides nutrition education and develops nutrition care plans with the oversight of a Registered Dietitian preceptor. Actively manages nutrition therapy interventions for patients on oral diets and oral nutrition supplements. Documents nutrition assessment and nutrition care plans in electronic medical record; all nutrition care plans are discussed with Registered Dietitian preceptor prior to implementation. All documentation includes Registered Dietitian co-signature. May participate in department team-based education programs (continuing education, nutrition support rounds, etc.) as scheduled work assignment allows. Maintains comprehensive medical nutrition therapy knowledge and engages in continuing education. Provides nutrition care and practices as part of an interprofessional team within the Clinical Nutrition Support Service. To maintain appropriate oversight of trainee staff and remain within salary budget, the pool of clinical dietitian trainees will be limited at the discretion of the leadership team.
Credentials:
- Eligible to receive Verification Statement from ACEND to sit for the Registration examination from Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Must successfully pass Registration examination within 6 months of receipt of ACEND Verification Statement.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited didactic program in dietetics
- Other (Required)
- Accredited Dietetic Internship Program, Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP) or integrated supervised practice training to meet accreditation standards. Clinical rotations for dietetic internship completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, including Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse. Must meet or exceed expectations on clinical rotation evaluations and have recommendation from HUP Internship Coordinator.
- Master of Arts or Science (Required)
- EFFECTIVE 1/1/2024, all candidates for registration as an RD or RDN must have Master’s degree
