The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Columbia University’s Department of Anesthesiology seeks an Assistant/Associate Clinical Anesthesiologist our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC) at The One, 1111 Westchester Avenue, White Plains, New York. The ASC will open in Fall 2025. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced skills in regional anesthesia to support our multidisciplinary ASC teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and interventional procedures.
- Perform preoperative anesthesia evaluations, including patient assessments and risk stratification.
- Develop and implement individualized anesthesia care plans tailored to each patient and procedure.
- Administer care as appropriate for the surgical procedure.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and physiological status throughout the perioperative period, adjusting anesthetic management as needed for safety and comfort.
- Manage airway, hemodynamic, and pain control intraoperatively and postoperatively.
- Oversee patient recovery from anesthesia, ensuring effective pain management and readiness for discharge.
- Respond promptly to anesthesia-related emergencies and complications, providing expert clinical intervention.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all anesthesia-related care in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the surgical and nursing teams to optimize perioperative workflows and enhance the patient experience.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all ASC policies, protocols, and accreditation requirements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of anesthesia practices, pharmacology, and technology
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees focused on quality improvement, education, and operational excellence.
- Foster communication with patients and families, addressing questions and concerns about anesthesia care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor in Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board certified in Anesthesiology
- Active, unrestricted New York State Medical License (or eligibility)
- Clinical anesthesia experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in outpatient/ambulatory surgical settings.
- Proficiency in regional anesthesia techniques
- Academic affiliation or experience in an academic medical center.
