Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied. Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams, and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician.
This position is within our General and Vascular Ultrasound practices and does not include Obstetric or Breast Ultrasound

Qualifications Must have an Associate's degree in a related field and a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sonography program. Incumbents hired into the role prior to February 15, 2018, are required to meet the previous requirements of graduating from an accredited sonography program.
License or Certification
Must be ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) and vascular technology (RVT). Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in abdomen within 6 months of Mayo employment. Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) within 12 months of Mayo employment. Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in vascular technology (RVT) within 18 months of Mayo employment. CPR/BLS Certified or obtained within 90 days of employment.
