The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The candidate will work in the Neuromuscular Pathology Laboratory. Duties will include but are not limited to: tissue processing, freezing, micro sectioning of paraffin and frozen blocks, ultra-microtomy, processing preparation of tissue for subsequent EM (Electron Microscopy) examination.
Responsibilities
- 75% - Specimen processing, freezing, embedding. Perform micro sectioning of frozen and paraffin blocks. Perform manual routine, special, IHC, IF stains and tease nerve fibers. Prepare chemical solutions and reagents. Specimen pick-up.
- 10% - Demonstrate independent technical judgement and willingness to work as a team player. Effectively resolve technical issues related to the histology laboratory.
- 5% - Analyze, resolve and troubleshoot various day-to-day laboratory tasks as needed. Assist in setting up, evaluating and troubleshooting new techniques. Effective troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment, which includes cryostats and ultramicrotome. Successfully carrying out and maintaining QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintain statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory.
- 5% - Administrative Responsibilities- Answering phone lines. Sending out and compiling reports. Accession specimens.
- 5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related health science field; or equivalent in work experience and education.
- Must hold one of the following licenses: Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians, or Certified Histological Technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- HT/HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible.
- Experience with Special Stains, IHC, IF, Ultra-microtomy, Electron Microscopy (EM) tissue preparation.
Other Requirements
- Capable of micro-sectioning at 4 to 5.
- Must be able to successfully complete systems training requirements.
