What You’ll Do
As a flight nurse, you’ll provide expert-level care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients in dynamic, high-stakes environments—whether in the air or on the ground. You’ll work autonomously and collaboratively to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care during interfacility transports and emergency responses.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assessment: Perform comprehensive physical, psychological, and developmental evaluations.
Planning: Develop individualized care plans using critical thinking and input from patients, families, and the care team.
Implementation: Deliver and coordinate care, administer medications, and manage resources in fast-paced, mobile settings.
Evaluation: Monitor patient outcomes and adjust care plans as needed.
Professionalism: Uphold the highest standards of nursing practice, safety, and ethics in accordance with CAMTS, CLIA, and Life Flight protocols.

Work Environment
This role requires adaptability and resilience. You’ll operate in:
· Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft (including unpressurized flights up to 10,000 feet)
· Ground ambulances and outdoor environments (including extreme weather and rugged terrain)
· Enclosed spaces with potential exposure to infectious diseases, noise, vibration, and dehydration risks

What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- State-certified Nurse with no restrictions, valid in area of operation.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and trauma care.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 120 days of hire.
- At least three years of emergency room or critical care experience.
- Must obtain CFRN certification within two years of hire.
- Advanced certification in trauma care (e.g., TNATC, ATLS, PHTLS, TNCC) within one year of hire, or earlier if required by the state of operation.
- Strong critical thinking and autonomous decision-making abilities in emergency and high-stress situations.
- Expertise in patient care delivery, safety practices, and compassionate handling of critically ill patients.
- Effective communication and teamwork with diverse healthcare professionals and patient families.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years of diverse critical care experience across various ICU specialties.
- Compact nursing license.
- Advanced certification in trauma care (e.g., TNATC, ATLS, PHTLS, TNCC).
- Experience in mentoring or training healthcare team members.
- Familiarity with advanced medical technologies and ICU-level care during transport.
Physical Requirements
- Must meet a pre-hire weight of less than 216 lbs by interview and maintain weight restrictions within policy.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and transferring patients and equipment.
- Manual dexterity for operating complex medical equipment and performing life-saving procedures.
- Capability to work in confined spaces, high-stress environments, and extreme conditions, including noise, vibration, temperature, and altitude.
- Ability to pass annual physical health assessments and maintain stamina for long shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
