MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Experience in a healthcare setting or customer service. Medical office, health access related, insurance verification, or scheduling experience preferred.
Other Credentials:
Knowledge and Skills:Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge with variety of insurance companies preferred.
Special Training:Proficient computer skills. Familiarity with medical terminology.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs all medical reception duties, including but not limited to answering phones, routine ordering/stocking of non procedural related supplies, scheduling appointments, PAT reservations, contacting patient to confirm scheduled appointments and notifies patient logistics of routine admissions for scheduled outpatient procedures.
- Gathers complete patient and procedure information and collaborates with physician's office to schedule cases while negotiating date and time and avoiding resource conflicts. Works with Interventional Radiology Director to schedule physician specific cases to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Obtains pre-certification and authorizations from various insurance carriers according to current requirements to facilitate maximum utilizations and efficiency with minimal procedural related problems.
- Ensures all appropriate staff, patients, departments, and external resources are notified of additions, changes, and cancellations to the daily, weekly, and monthly schedule
- Reviews promptly with ordering Physician routine issues, difficulties, and unusual circumstances that may delay; cause insurance denials, or other scheduling concerns to allow for appropriate resolution.
- Obtains and advises patients of all necessary pre-certification and referrals needed for financial reimbursement and when required verifies all related authorization are obtained twenty-four hours before date of service.
- Interacts with patients, staff and physicians, in a courteous and professional manner. Implements service recovery skills as appropriate in problem solving situations and know when to address issue to Manager/ Director.
- Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers by entering physician orders, transporting lab specimens, as well as with basic patient care needs/ activities during heightened departmental volumes.
- Oversees filing of information into medical records according to established protocol, the preparation, pulling and filling of charts and the purging of charts for effective file management.
- Takes accurate and complete messages, relays information, pages personnel and other departments, and physicians as needed, notifies appropriate staff of clinical significant or urgent situations arises.
- Assists and supports with the training and education of other staff related to the scheduling and insurance verification process.
- Works with charge nurse to coordinate with nursing units and other departments to help facilitate the movement of patients into and out of the procedural unit. Updates patient logistics of patient up/ downgraded as directed.
- Supports departmental Performance Improvement Projects and aligns daily activities with organizational and departmental goals.
- Performs clerical duties including, but not limited to processing mail, confirming appointments, sending out follow-up notices, and maintaining statistics.
- Greets all patients and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner. Informs patient of privacy policies and procedures; informs patients of delay’s in physician schedules, assists with patient comfort while delayed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
