Summary:
Supervises the Clinical Nutrition Team Services including Clinical Dietitians, Clinical Dietitian Specialists, Dietetic Technician and Diet Office personnel to ensure that care is provided in accordance with the mission statement of the institution, regulatory requirements are met, and nutrition services are integrated with health care team patient care priorities. Assists the Director with oversight of department activities including personnel management, regulatory readiness, committee representation, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement and department /inter –department al projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates and supervises activities of Staff Dietitians, Diet Technicians, Diet Clerks and supports Patient Tray Line Manager regarding Clinical diets. Act as a resource for staff members and as a consultant with members of the health care team to promote superior nutritional care. Provides on-going staff mentoring, coaching and counseling interventions as necessary for the Clinical Team.
Directs the development of Clinical Nutrition policies using evidence-based guidelines that are associated with safe and timely care of Clinical Nutrition Services. Anticipates needs and takes initiative for development and implementation of projects i.e. formulary policies, education materials and manuals to enhance the patient learning experience utilizing resources such as the American Dietetic Association's Nutrition Care Manual and additional approved resources.
Assesses, evaluates and monitors the nutritional care that is being provided to inpatients needing nutrition support. In conjunction with other members of the Food & Nutrition management team, plans and implement rotation menus for all in-patient regular and therapeutic diets that both meet the ADA standard for patient meals and supports patient satisfaction scores at or above the established hospital goal.
Reviews RD Penn Chart documentation ensuring standardization and volume metrics are met.
Implements and maintains a measurable, results oriented Quality Assurance Program that provides optimal patient service and safety, and meets the standards of the hospital. Maintains and participates in completion of quality improvement monitors, medical record documentation and department records/schedules. Effectively makes adjustments to staffing and work patterns for both clinical and non-clinical services in response to benchmark performance metrics.
Manages, maintains and coordinates the use of multiple computer software programs and interfaces, to assure efficiency, communication and integration of clinical nutrition services with other departments, within the hospital.
Facilitates and recommends acquisition of professional educational resources, patient education resources and educational experiences for clinical nutrition staff, interns, patient service employees and health care team members. Ensures that professional continuing education programs are offered to assure staff competence and accurate continuation.
Required Credentials:
- Registered Dietitian (RD) / Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN)
- State of Pennsylvania Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) (within 6 months of hire if transferring out of state). State residents should hold licensure in PA.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
**Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited didactic program in Dietetics. And…
**5+ years of Clinical practice experience.
- Master of Arts or Science (Required)
** Nutrition/Business/Health Administration/Public Health/Food Science/Organizational Design or related area of study.
- Other (Required)
**Accredited Dietetic Internship Program or Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP) in Clinical Nutrition Science, Food Service Management.
