The Communications Department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic’s reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services.
We are seeking a dynamic Communication Specialist who is passionate about creating compelling, audience-relevant communications across various platforms. This role is pivotal in developing internal communications that drive key initiatives and priorities within the organization, while also demonstrating the vision and values of Mayo Clinic.
The specialist is focused on storytelling that is aligned with Mayo Clinic in Florida’s strategic priorities, and priority and focus areas. The specialist supports client needs and partners with other department team members to drive and measure outcomes. Must develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the organization's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Craft engaging and informative content that inspires and informs internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop leader communications that highlight key organizational initiatives and priorities.
• Utilize omnichannel storytelling, including visual components, to drive engagement.
• Collaborate confidently with leaders at all levels of the organization.

QualificationsRequires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant work experience. Related internships will be considered. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible. Demonstrated professionalism and ethics, with ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. Role models service excellence. Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees in field of communications (e.g., Journalism, public relations)
- 5+ years of comprehensive and diversified experience working in communications, to include the healthcare sector.
- Exceptional written communication skills and technical competence in developing communications tactics for various audiences and channels.
- Experience in digital content development and working knowledge of website and email platforms.
- Proficiency in photography and graphic design (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Ability to independently manage a varied workload in an environment with competing priorities.
- Innovative and adaptable mindset.
- Flexibility and availability to be on the hospital campus as needed, sometimes on short notice.
- Self-motivated, able to take initiative and execute responsibilities autonomously.
