Penn Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Mental Health Engagement, Navigation, and Delivery (MEND) service. MEND is an interprofessional and multidisciplinary team of MDs, NPs, and Social Workers who integrate proactive psychiatry into acute inpatient care. In this position the APP will provide clinical support for patients with chronic psychiatric conditions in the acute care setting by implementing behavior plans, supportive therapy, and providing consistent follow-up during hospitalization. Job responsibilities include: psychiatric evaluation incorporating recommendations for psychopharmacotherapy and behavioral interventions, collaboration with medicine teams and other interdisciplinary providers, providing education on agitation management in the acute care setting, de-escalation techniques, management of patients with substance use disorders and patients requiring suicide precautions. This position is well-supported through collaborative support by psychiatry faculty and requires a high level of independence, curiosity, and willingness to learn new skills.
All Advanced Practice Providers will function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The Advanced Practice Provider hired by the Department of Advanced Practice will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the collaborating physician/division designee, and within the Human Resource guidelines.
This position is Per Diem - As Needed Basis
Minimum Requirements:
- Masters prepared as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioneror physician assistant
- Pennsylvania licensure as a CRNP or PA-C
- Experience in behavioral health and/or acute care medical setting preferred
- BLS required
