General Summary Statement: A Nurse Practitioner who exhibits critical thinking skills and has a strong knowledge base in Cardiology. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team, this includes but is not limited to: physicians, nurses, pharmacy and case management.
The purpose of this job is to deliver high quality efficient care to our Cardiology population, who have undergone invasive procedures, this includes but is not limited to patients who have had cardiac catheterization, stent procedures, and those patients who are having an acute myocardial infarction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The job duties of this position include:
-Managing the care of all patients who have had a cardiac intervention, including stent procedure or angioplasty. Managing the care of these patients includes a thorough physical exam, monitoring labs and diagnostic studies, and communicating with our physicians about each patient. We manage these patients until they are discharged from the hospital. We implement a detailed discharge plan for all of these patients. The discharge plan includes specific instructions about all medicines with an emphasis on the importance of all their cardiac medicines. We judiciously make sure all core measures are met for this population. We also review with our patients the importance of diet and exercise including a referral to cardiac rehab.
-Management of a patient having an acute myocardial infarction in the inpatient or in the ED.We are paged for a “Code PCI”. When we receive this page, one of us will go to the emergency room, manage the care of the patient along with the ER physician, while expediting their transport to the catheterization lab. Once in the lab we will continue our history and physical exam on the patient while the staff is prepping the patient for their procedure. After the intervention we manage this patient until their discharge.
-Pre-Admission Testing- In this environment, we see the patient, review with them in detail about their procedure, we review their labs, and any diagnostic studies they have had. The importance of the Nurse practitioner in this role is to identify patients who are at higher risk for cardiac cath.
-Stress Lab- We are responsible for inpatient and outpatient stress testing on inpatients and outpatients for both Cardiology groups from 7-12noon.
-Respond to patient emergencies in the Cath lab and or PCU working in conjunction with other rapid responders and Code Team as necessary.
-Practice and document in a manner that supports our scope of practice and certifying body the ANCC.
Education Training and Experience
Minimum 3 years clinical nursing practice in Cardiology or Critical Care. Minimum 2 years advanced practice.
Licensure/Certification
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania
Licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of PA
Current CRNP prescriptive authority in the state of PA
Current basic life support (BLS)
Current Advances Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
