Position Summary
The Shared Business Services Hub provides human resources, payroll and financial transaction processing support to many administrative and academic units on the Danforth Campus. This position serves as the Human Resources/Payroll Support Specialist to an assigned portfolio of units, processing human resources transactions and monitoring payroll cycles. This position is a subject matter expert, functioning as a primary source of information for departments regarding employee and non-employee appointments and Workday processes and procedures. This position also assists with reporting and analysis of human resources and payroll data.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Human Resources
- Creates positions and job requisitions in Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) System as applicable.
- Enters new appointments for faculty, staff, student workers, non-employee stipend recipients and contingent workers in Workday HCM. Ensure that individuals successfully complete their onboarding processes in Workday, providing assistance, training and information as needed.
- Processes other online transactions, including data changes, merit increases, supplemental payments, and academic appointment updates.
- Coordinates transfers and terminations, confirms accrued vacation payouts and transfers are accurately calculated by the system.
- Enters annual stipend level updates for students and post-docs.
- Coordinates Leaves of Absence in conjunction with the HR Leaves Team as applicable.
- Updates absence calendars, tracks utilization of paid time off and processes Return from Leave transactions in the system where applicable.
Payroll
- Completes scheduled payroll processing tasks for both biweekly and monthly payroll cycles.
- Confirms compensation amounts and updates payroll costing allocations as required.
- Manages time reporting processes, including reviewing timesheets for errors and securing appropriate manager approvals. Runs required pay cycle reports and review for accuracy and completeness, resolving issues as required.
- Processes manual check requests and payroll accounting adjustments as needed.
Reporting
- Assists the Shared Business Services Hub Director, Manager and HR/Payroll Workgroup Supervisor in generating personnel/payroll reports as required.
Customer Service
- Provides professional and courteous customer service to Academic and Administrative Units supported by the Shared Business Services Hub.
Process Improvement
- Continually looks for opportunity to improve workflow, efficiency and accuracy of transactions.
- Participates in pilot projects and provide feedback on system and process enhancements during development and implementation.
Policies and Procedures
- Ensures consistency of human resources and payroll practices and adherence to university policies and procedures.
- Maintains a thorough up-to-date knowledge of policies and procedures, including the university’s statement of internal controls and federal, state, local and foreign national payroll rules and regulations.

- This position is a hybrid position that primarily works from home.
- Must have a dedicated workspace with space for dual monitors and must be able to work at campus location (St. Louis) as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources or related field may substitute for experience.
- Five years of experience in human resources, payroll and/or accounting experience.
- Experience with Workday and CRM systems.
- Prior experience in a university setting.
- Prior experience with financial reporting systems.
- Demonstrated ability to modify one's own behavioral style to interact successfully with faculty, staff and students (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, and respond to their needs with a high level of professionalism.
- Excellent customer service skills; and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

Salary Range
$23.37 - $36.19 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
