SUMMARY OF POSITION:The Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care within Montefiore’s Interventional Cardiology service line. Responsibilities include evaluating and managing patients in the Rapid Access Unit and Cath Lab, performing histories and physical exams, writing orders, removing vascular sheaths and TR bands, assisting in diagnostic and interventional procedures, and ensuring continuity of care post-procedure. The PA will collaborate with interventional cardiologists, cardiology fellows, nursing staff, and other clinical team members to provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients and perform histories and physical exams (H&Ps) to assess suitability for interventional procedures and obtain consent.
- Manage pre- and post-procedure patient care, including monitoring for complications, writing orders, and ensuring safe discharge or admission as clinically indicated.
- Remove sheaths and TR bands, ensuring hemostasis and appropriate escalation of care when necessary.
- Interpret patient data, including labs, EKGs, and imaging, and present cases to interventionalists.
- Perform EKGs, venipuncture, start IV lines, and administer IV medications as needed.
- Respond to cardiac emergencies (STEMI activations, cath lab codes, etc.) in collaboration with the medical team.
- Conduct pre-procedure phone assessments with patients to confirm medication compliance, history, and lab readiness.
- Assist in recruitment of patients for cardiology research studies and clinical trials.
- Provide follow-up care in post-interventional clinics, including evaluation of DAP therapy adherence and ongoing monitoring.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff (nurses, PAs, referring MDs, admitting/transfer office) to ensure seamless patient care and bed utilization.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree; Graduate of an accredited PA program.
- Physician Assistant License in New York State.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- OHS Fit Test.
- OHS Annual Assessment.
Preferred
- Prior cardiology or interventional cardiology experience.
- Strong knowledge of EKG interpretation, lab data review, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Excellent ability to respond in emergent situations and provide accurate clinical assessments.
- Effective communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
