SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
Performs a variety of patient care and therapeutic activities in support of the multidisciplinary team in the treatment and rehabilitation of psychiatric patient population with substance abuse problems. Performs assigned functions to facilitate achieving the goals and objectives of discussion groups, activity groups, and patient health teaching groups.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Experience:
One year behavioral health experience.
Other Credentials:
AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides care based on the patient's treatment plan. Formulates programs/groups for treatment and rehabilitation of psychiatric patients. Performs assigned functions to facilitate achieving the goals and objectives of discussion groups, activity groups, and patient health teaching groups.
- Performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Intervenes with critical patients such as escalating of behavior, suicidal behavior, elopement and other emergency situations occurring.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff in accordance with the safety policy. Maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu by enforcing program rules, regulations and limits. Assists in monitoring and maintaining the environmental standards for the physical environment, by ensuring the safety and organization of public patient spaces on the unit.
- Assists in processing new admissions, transfers, and discharges. Provides orientation to unit for new patients, including completing patient searches at admission Performs admission procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines. Monitors patients whose behavior may warrant use of special precautions. Checks accurately patient's vital signs and weight as assigned.
- Counsels, instructs and provides support to patients in the performance of routine activities of daily living. Identifies and responds to patients in crisis, provides addictions related education and teaches life skills.
- Documents accurately in written form pertinent information regarding the patient's behavior; reports findings to the registered nurse.
- Conducts discussion group activities appropriate to education level. Participates in patient teaching groups. Plans and leads a group activity, including recreational therapy, recovery tools, therapeutic board games, and journaling groups and other appropriate activity groups.
- Performs duties to enable the patient to integrate social skills within the framework of milieu therapy. Participates in unit-based activities and continuing education activities. Participates in performance improvement activities. Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, and agency-sponsored educational sessions.
- Identifies malfunctioning of equipment and notifies appropriate parties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
