SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)
Provides clinical and operational leadership to Basic Life Support Emergency Medical Services staff. Functions as an integral part of the Department's Management Team to promote optimal staff participation and performance in all divisions of the EMS department. Performs basic patient assessments and provides life support services in the pre-hospital setting as well as during emergent and non-emergent patient transport.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification of completion from accredited EMT program.
Experience: Three years previous EMS experience minimum. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Other Credentials:AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider,Drivers License,Emergency Medical Technician,Hazmat Awareness,ICS-100,ICS-200,NIMS,NIMS-700
Knowledge and Skills: Intermediate computer skills.
Special Training: Specialty courses. Hazmat Ops, EMD/BCO (preferred), CEVO I, or equivalency. NJ EMT certification by the NREMT, or the State of New York, or any member state of the Atlantic EMS Council, currently Delaware, the district of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Ability to multi-task, give and take direction, and work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills required. Excellent customer service skills required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides clinical and operational leadership to basic life support staff in both the emergent (911) and non-emergent settings. Functions as an integral part of the Departments Management Team to promote optimal staff participation and performance in all divisions of the EMS department. Acts as a role model in the perspective that quality patient care and customer service is the core of the organization's task. Provides guidance to EMS staff regarding patient assessment and treatment with the ultimate goal of optimal patient outcome and customer service.
- Manages rapidly changing situations while maintaining smooth and efficient operations effectively. Identifies situations that require immediate intervention and uses proper resources and procedures to manage the process.
- Maintains current certification and competency records of self and assigned staff to ensure compliance with hosptal and state regulatory requirements.
- Provides leadership to all areas of the department by involvement in and knowledge of operational activities. Assures shift functions are addressed including staff scheduling, completed PCRs, and crew equipment and supply needs.
- Performs Basic patient assessment and provides life support services at the scene and enroute to the hospital.
- Communicates effectively with the department management team to assure a continuum of accurate information is maintained. Sets a priority every shift to review e-mail and voice-mail messages and responds and documents status of same accordingly.
- Participates in department and administrative meetings by providing insight and perspective to current issues. Completes in a timley manner, an insightful, educational and motivating performance appraisal on each assigned staff member.
- Ensures performance appraisals are validated through collective data of retrospective review, direct oversight, collaborative input of other managers and ongoing dialog with employee.
- Coordinates the scheduling of transports and assures the system addresses the needs of the patient and hospital system.
- Addresses complaints or performance issues in any area of the departmentand mitigates problems as they occur.
- Interfaces effectively and compassionately with allied agencies, providing professional guidance diplomatically to ensure proper patient care, scene safety and enhance provider knowledge.
- Drives defensively, obeys New Jersey Motor vehicle Commission law and follows emergency driving practices that promote safe driving and minimize risk of injury or incident to life or property.
- Demonstrates and ensures safety is practiced in all aspects of activities performed by self and staff. Responds in a supervisory capacity to CH EMS calls of a serious or dangerous nature, to ensure crew safety and assist with on scene demands of such events. Is cognizant of and follows incident/medical reporting procedures for operational and staff occurances.
- Assures special events are approprietly staffed, paying special attention to customer service and the reputation of the department as well as the health system.
- Identifies areas of improvement and facilitates improvement projects.
- Maintains status as an active EMS provider. Demonstrates flexibility in assisting with departmental needs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
