Summary:
- The Associate Vice President - Operations provides operational leadership toward fulfilling the University of Pennsylvania Health System's (UPHS) mission in the delivery of world class patient care while supporting the University's education and research mission. They create a patient and customer focused organization designed to support delivery of highest quality care. Attracts and develops a team of highly capable, committed physicians, managers and staff; shares a passion for patient and customer centered care; continually develops the UPHS brand; and ensures the financial health and long-term sustainability of PAH. The Associate Vice President - Operations partners with the Chief Operating Officer in developing strategic, operating and financial plans to accomplish the UPHS mission. The Associate Vice President - Operations will provide leadership for the Hospital Directors/Associate Directors and their departments as well as provide direct supervision for specified PAH clinical, administrative and support departments. They will report directly to the PAH COO and will play an integral role in the support of all hospital operations.
Responsibilities:
- Works with Hospital and Health System leadership to ensure patient and customer satisfaction through implementation of various strategies as well as comprehensive and continuous measurement of customer satisfaction for all key customer groups
- Ensures operations team maintains a focus on quality and patient safety in everything they do
- Works with operations leadership in developing and/or enhancing programs, services and products to anticipate future business needs, build strength and generate growth. Also collaborates with physician and nursing leadership with the same goals
- Ensures operations team satisfaction through comprehensive and continuous measurement utilizing available resources and strategies for employee engagement
- Provides operations team with development opportunities to build leadership capability and process improvement acumen. Maintains high expectations, high levels of accountability and rigorous monitoring of progress
- Participates in industry associations as appropriate
- Partners with PAH COO in building and enhancing alliances and integration with entities across Penn Medicine
- Build productive business partnerships and relationships with the community. Participate in community activities as appropriate
- Effectively manage operating budgets for assigned Departments or Programs
- Provides leadership for achievement of organizational goals
- Prepares and submits regular reports on operational metrics related to Hospital goals
- Develops work plans for each Department or area in support of Hospital goals
- Ensure that Department and areas meet all required regulatory goals
- Prepares annual operating and capital budgets
- Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to service delivery
- Participates and or leads negotiations with vendors for required services
Credentials:
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required with 10+ years Executive leadership experience leading hospital operations in an integrated health system within a competitive market.
- Master's Degree preferred.
