ResponsibilitiesThe Ophthalmic/Optometric Assistant is responsible for carrying out patient-oriented procedures under the supervision of the department director, supervisor, technician, ophthalmologist or optometrist. The assistant prepares the patient to see the ophthalmologist/optometrist and performs all required ancillary tests. The assistant is responsible for adhering to all departmental policies and procedures. The assistant travels to and assists at regional sites as directed.
QualificationsPrefer at least 2 years of healthcare experience.Two years experience as an ophthalmic/optometry technician preferred. General clerical skills, including basic computer and data entry, legible handwriting, and ability to use multi-line phone system required.Certification by Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified Ophthalmic Technician, Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist or certification by the American Optometric Association (AOA) as a Certified Para-optometric Assistant (CPOA) or Certified Para-optometric Technician (CPOT) must be obtained within 2 years of hire. BLS and CPR certification required within 6 months of hire.
