Overview
The Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) supports genetic counselors and geneticists by streamlining clinical operations and coordinating care for a diverse patient population before, during, and after genetic counseling sessions.
Responsibilities
Pre-Appointment
- Triage appointments, prepare charts, and collect patient records and family history.
- Coordinate with labs and patients for insurance verification, telehealth, and testing needs.
Post-Appointment & Follow-Up
- Schedule labs, disclosure visits, and follow-ups for patients and family members.
- Track, organize, and communicate test results, including reclassified or complex results.
Administrative Support
- Respond to routine inquiries, triage calls/emails, and maintain documentation.
- Input and maintain clinical/research databases accurately.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (biology/genetics/health science preferred); GCA Certificate preferred.
- Healthcare experience, strong computer skills, bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks, maintain confidentiality, and work independently or collaboratively.
