ResponsibilitiesStaff Safety personnel are deeply embedded into the departments that they support, often being viewed as a member of the department’s leadership team to assist with regulatory compliance/best practice, injury reduction, and workforce productivity. They create, deploy, and provide decision support for staff safety policies and procedures; lead accreditation-related teams (e.g., JC, CAP, CARF); provide input into the design of new facilities and equipment; review and assist with improvement opportunities associated with employee reported incidents; and most importantly, contribute to department specific operational business decisions.
Under the general supervision of the Occupational Safety Manager, the Occupational Safety Associate will spend the majority of their time working to achieve established goals of the work unit. A portion of their time will be spent as a safety consultant and resource in directing activities within designated portions of the safety program in a customer focused environment. Participates in administrative duties as assigned, including budget and resource allocation, and assisting with facilitation of staff involved with safety-related projects. Identifies and assists with the implementation of creative ideas and suggestions to improve systems, processes and service, development and implementation of new policies and procedures, and implementation of educational programs; evaluates established procedures and educational programs for effectiveness. Performs and assists others with the development and facilitation of safety audits, hazard assessments and building inspections, including the interpretation of results, identification and implementation of solutions. Analyzes and interprets data and participate in decisions regarding validity and conclusions. Maintains strict confidentiality of information.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or related field and appropriate coursework. Requires 2 years’ experience in occupational safety or related discipline, which includes design of independent projects, data analysis and interpretation. Healthcare safety experience preferred.
Must have ability to organize and implement procedures/techniques independently. Must have significant technical knowledge, understanding of safety regulations, ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written materials, and ability to work both independently and in a team. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment that requires upgrading of skills on a regular basis is required. Must have established presentation and training skills, and be capable of demonstrating and exhibiting positive customer service skills. Must have working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases). Must have working knowledge of the internet and the ability to conduct searches for new products and safety information.
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is required within two years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in a Safety Management System (e.g., ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, OSHA VPP) preferred
Prior experience and knowledge of Construction/Contractor Safety preferred
Understanding of data structures and use of automation utilizing current Microsoft tools preferred
