Position Overview
SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)
Assists the Director of the HIM Department in managing the complex issues surrounding the Computerized Medical Record as well as providing oversight for implementation of technology into HIM functions in order to achieve greater efficiencies. Participates in the development of health information management department policies and procedures to support the departmental transition from a paper to an electronic environment. Assists the HIM Director with various administrative tasks related to budget and vendor management. Participates in high-level internal and external projects as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree preferred. RHIA or RHIT preferred.
Experience: Four years experience in Health Information Management (HIM) acute care environment. With Bachelor's degree, one year experience in HIM acute care environment.
Other Credentials:
Knowledge and Skills: Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast paced environment.
Special Training: Strong knowledge of Windows. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Internet applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the redesign and coordination of health information management processes to adapt to an evolving electronic medical record environment. Apply technical professional standards against acquired electronic record systems to identfify opportunities for improvement.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive project plan for all activities. Coordinates and directs project activities to assure all established objectivess are met.
- Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new system installs and releases, including testing, access, data output, workflow and process requirements, makes recommendations for system improvement.
- Meets with Health Information Management department management staff and regularly evaluates efficiency. Meets with HIM management staff to facilitate and recommend practices to improve efficiency through computerization. Assists in the development and organization of education for health information and clinical staff by developing communication tools, departmental scripts and training materials in conjunction with others.
- Assists the Director with the preparation of the yearly departmental operating budget. Demonstrates proactive vigilance in identifying opportunities for review enhancement and cost reduction.
- Provides department technical support by facilitating the set up of the staff for telecommuting, coordinates reimbursement of internet services, acquires hardware for the department and coordinates installation with IS.
- Assists with staff training for HIM systems, workflow changes and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
